Leisa James guiding a private yoga session with a client in her own home in Adelaide

One to one, in your own home

Private yoga and Pilates in Adelaide. Built around the body you have.

Individual movement sessions in your own lounge room, shaped around you rather than around a routine. We work at your pace, with your body, on the day I arrive.

I bring the mat, the props and everything else we need. There is nothing to buy, nothing to book and nowhere to drive afterwards.

From $100 · 45 or 60 minute sessions

We talk first. Payment is only discussed once we have both agreed this is right for you.

The things people ask me first

How it works, in four short answers.

I come to you

Your own home, within about 30km of West Hindmarsh. We use whatever space you have.

Everything is provided

Mat, blocks, straps, bolsters and a chair if we want one. You need nothing at all.

Beginners especially welcome

Most of the women I see are starting, or starting again after a very long gap.

Shaped to your day

We work with how your body feels that morning, not with a plan written last week.

I am coming into your home, so it matters that you know who is arriving. Senior First Aid, police clearance and Working With Children clearance, all current.

Before anything else

This is built around one person. That person is you.

Every part of the session is chosen for your body, on the day I walk in. What we did last week is a starting point rather than a plan we have to get through.

Some days you will have energy and we will use it. Some days you will be sore, tired or flat, and we will work with that instead. Both of those are good sessions.

You are the only person in the room. Nothing moves faster than you do, and there is nothing to keep up with.

What that looks like in practice

  • We start where you are. Not where a program says you should be by week four.
  • The session changes as you do. Movements are adapted, swapped or set aside as your body asks.
  • Everything is explained. I tell you what we are doing and why before we do it.
  • You can say no at any point. No explanation needed, and it changes nothing between us.
  • Nobody is watching. No mirrors, no room full of people, no keeping face.

Movement is not something you have to earn your way into. We begin with what your body can do today.

You might recognise some of this

If any of this sounds familiar, you are in the right place.

  • Mornings are stiff. It takes a while before your body feels like yours again.
  • Stairs have started to need your attention. So has getting out of a low chair, or out of the car.
  • You used to move easily. You are not quite sure when that changed, only that it did.
  • You have been meaning to start something. For a while now. Possibly for years.
  • You would rather begin somewhere quiet. One person, paying attention, in a room you already feel safe in.
  • You are coming back to movement. After surgery, after illness, or after a long stretch away from it.

You do not need to be flexible, fit or confident, and you do not need to know what you need. You need to be willing to begin, and that is honestly all.

The parts that make up an hour

Yoga, Pilates and breath, drawn on as your body asks for them.

You do not have to choose between them, and you do not need to know the difference. I use what suits you on the day, and often a session moves through several of these without ever announcing itself.

Yoga

Slow, supported postures held for as long as they are useful. Props do the work that flexibility would otherwise be asked to do.

Pilates

Small, precise movement through the centre of the body, designed to encourage control and steadiness rather than effort.

Strength

Simple, steady work that may support you in feeling more capable in ordinary things. Carrying shopping. Getting off the floor.

Balance

Practised with a wall or a chair right there. Confidence on your feet is often what women tell me they want most.

Breath

Brought in when it helps you settle, never as an exercise you have to get right.

Stillness

Rest at the end, for as long as you want it. This part matters as much as the rest.

The label on the movement matters far less than whether it is the right thing for you today.

So you know what to expect

What happens when I arrive.

Everything sits inside your 45 or 60 minutes. Settling in, the movement itself, and time at the end to let it land. It does not feel rushed.

01

I arrive and set up

I bring everything with me. We find a bit of floor, or we use a chair, and I lay out the mat and props while you get comfortable. It takes a few minutes and there is nothing for you to organise beforehand.

02

We talk about today

A short conversation before we move. How you have slept, what is sore, what sort of week it has been. This is what shapes the session, and it is why no two are the same.

03

We move

Slowly, with plenty of support, and always inside the range your body offers that day. I explain each thing before we do it and I check in as we go. If something does not feel right we change it, and you never have to justify saying so.

04

We finish gently

Time to rest at the end while I pack up quietly around you. If you would like something to carry through the week, I will leave you one or two simple things. Only if you want them.

However your body needs to do it

If your knees do not kneel, we do not kneel.

Props are not a lesser version of the movement. They are how the movement becomes yours. I use them without any fuss and without making a thing of it.

  • A chair for anything that would otherwise happen on the floor.
  • A wall for balance, and for support behind you.
  • Blocks and bolsters to bring the floor up to meet you.
  • Cushions and blankets under knees, hips, head, wherever they help.
  • Your bed or your couch, if that is genuinely the most comfortable place to work.

Getting down to the floor is optional. It always has been.

Working with what your body is carrying

Alongside arthritis, joint replacements and old injuries.

A lot of the women I work with are managing something. Gentle, individual movement can often sit alongside it, adapted carefully and with your medical team's blessing where that is relevant.

I have severe osteoarthritis through my own spine, so I know this territory from the inside. I know what it is to be careful with a body and still want to move it.

This may be a good fit

  • You are managing arthritis and want to keep moving comfortably.
  • You have had a hip or knee replacement, are past your rehab, and have been cleared to return to gentle movement.
  • An old injury has settled but has left you cautious.
  • You are stiff, deconditioned, or simply have not moved much for a long time.
  • Your physio or doctor has suggested gentle movement and you would rather do it one to one.

Worth a word with someone first

  • You are still inside a rehabilitation program or have surgery coming up.
  • You have pain that is new, sharp, or that nobody has looked at yet.
  • You have been given movement restrictions and are not sure what they cover.
  • Something has changed recently and you have not been back to your doctor about it.

Have that conversation, then come back to me. I am very happy to wait, and happy to work in with whatever you are told.

Sometimes the best care is knowing when to wait. Nothing here is a substitute for medical advice, and I will always ask before we begin.

How we get from here to a first session

  1. You send an enquiry. A few lines about what is going on is plenty.

  3. We have a conversation about whether this is right for you. No obligation in it at all.
  4. If we go ahead, we sort timing, location, paperwork and payment together.

Things women ask me before we start

Questions, answered plainly.

Do I need to be fit or flexible?

No. Not even a little. The whole point of working one to one is that we start with the body in front of me. Most women who contact me have not done anything like this in years.

What if I cannot get down to the floor?

Then we do not go to the floor. We use a chair, a wall, the bed or the couch. Everything can be adapted, and doing it standing or seated is not a lesser version of the session.

What should I wear?

Whatever is comfortable and lets you move. Soft clothes, bare feet or socks with grip. There is nothing to change into and nobody to dress up for.

Do I need a mat or any equipment?

No. I bring the mat, blocks, straps, bolsters, bands and weights. If you already have things you like using, we will use those instead.

How much space do I need?

Enough to lie down with your arms out. A lounge room with a coffee table pushed aside is plenty. If you have a deck or a shady patch of garden, we can work out there.

How often should I have a session?

Most women start weekly or fortnightly. We will talk about what suits your body, your week and your budget, and it can change as you go.

Can my partner or a friend join us?

Yes, and quite a few people do. Tell me when you enquire and we will talk about how that works and what it costs.

What if I need to cancel?

Just let me know at least 48 hours ahead, and we'll find another day that suits you. If something unexpected comes up at the last minute, please get in touch anyway. Life happens, and we'll do our best to find a suitable solution together.

How far do you travel?

About 30km from West Hindmarsh, which covers most of metropolitan Adelaide. If you are a little outside that, ask me anyway and we will see.

Whenever you are ready

Tell me what is going on, and we will work it out.

You do not need to know what you need or how to describe it. A few lines about how your body has been feeling is more than enough to start with.

If I am not the right person for you, I will say so and point you somewhere better. There is no obligation in getting in touch and no expectation that you will go ahead.
