Why studios say yes

Not like anything else on your timetable.

They leave with something they can use

Not a technique they half remember. A short sequence they can lay out on the loungeroom floor that same week.

I bring the whole afternoon

The sequence, the teaching, the pacing, the facilitation. You provide the space and invite your people.

People bring someone

Partners, friends, sisters, mothers and daughters. Some of them will be walking into your studio for the first time.

Easy on you

Floor space, a warm room and your usual props. We work out the rest together well before the day.

From our Adelaide afternoons

See what one of these actually feels like.

So what is it, really

A shared afternoon, not a training course.

Nobody leaves this a therapist, and nobody is meant to. There is no certificate and no assessment. What people leave with is a simple sequence and the confidence to use it on someone they care about.

Everyone stays fully clothed and works on padded mats. There is no oil and no draping. You do not need to be flexible, and you do not need to have done yoga before.

It is practical, and it is playful. There is usually more laughing than people expect in the first hour, and a very quiet room by the end of it.

The sequence we teach is influenced by the traditional approach taught by Kam Thye Chow, where assisted movement, gentle pressure, breath and flowing transitions come together as one continuous practice rather than a set of separate techniques.

The techniques are simple enough for anyone. The care people take with each other is the part that makes the afternoon.

What they take home

A sequence they will still remember on the drive home.

We usually cover around 7 to 12 movements and techniques, depending on the group and the flow of the day. The sequence works down and back up the body, so it ends up feeling like one whole thing rather than a list.

Where we work

  • Feet and ankles
  • Legs and hips
  • Back
  • Shoulders
  • Neck and head

What they learn to do

  • Set their partner up. Comfortable and properly supported before anything begins.
  • Use the props. Cushions, blankets and bolsters, without any fuss about it.
  • Lean, do not push. Using body weight instead of muscling through.
  • Ask about pressure. And read the answer they get back.
  • Support a stretch. Rather than force one.
  • Finish slowly. Head and neck work at the end.

This is the part most people are surprised by. We do not just show the movements. We spend time on where the giver sits, how they shift their own weight, and how they arrive at the next position before they start it. That is what turns a handful of techniques into something that flows, and it is why complete beginners walk out feeling capable.

How the afternoon runs

Three hours. Two people. One beautiful sequence.

  1. 01

    Arriving

The room is already set. Mats, blankets, pillows and bolsters laid out and waiting. People settle in, find their spot and say hello to whoever they are working with.

  2. 02

    Watching first

I demonstrate each part before anyone tries it. Nobody is asked to work something out on the spot, and nobody has to guess.

  3. 03

    One of you lies down

One person settles onto the mat while the other works through what we have just covered. I move around the room the whole time, adjusting hands, angles and positions.

  4. 04

    Then you swap

Everyone gives and everyone receives. That is the whole point of the afternoon, and it is usually the giving that surprises people most.

  5. 05

    Head and neck bliss

We finish the sequence slowly, up through the shoulders, the neck and the head. This is the part people talk about afterwards.

  6. 06

    A few minutes of nothing

Everyone lies still at the end with nothing to do and nowhere to be. It is a very quiet room, and it is worth staying for.

What people say afterwards

What tends to stay with them.

Learning to receive

A lot of women are far better at looking after other people than at lying down and letting someone look after them. Three hours is long enough to get used to it.

Confidence with touch

Knowing where to put your hands, how much to lean, and what to say if something is too much. It is a small skill and it goes a long way.

Time to slow right down

No phone, no clock watching, nothing to keep up with. Slow supported work does something that is hard to argue with.

A better sense of your own body

Being worked on carefully tells you a lot about where you have been holding on.

Something to keep doing

The sequence comes home with them. Most people use it on a Sunday afternoon within the fortnight.

A good memory with someone

You do not get many afternoons like this with the people you love. That is really what they are booking.

Worth knowing before you book

A little note about the floor.

Almost all of this happens on padded mats at floor level. You do not need to be flexible and you do not need to have done yoga before. You do need to be reasonably comfortable getting down to the floor and back up again, and spending a fair bit of the afternoon sitting or kneeling.

If you are not sure whether that is you, get in touch before you book. I would much rather have that conversation first than have you spend three hours uncomfortable.

What to bring

  • Comfortable clothes you can move and kneel in
  • Water
  • Someone you like, if you are coming as a pair
  • An open mind

The studio and I sort out mats, bolsters and blankets between us, so there is nothing for you to carry in.

The invitation

Better with someone you like.

Come as a pair

$111

Bring a friend or partner and enjoy the whole afternoon together. You work on each other, so you both give and both receive.

Come on your own

$65

Coming by yourself is completely fine. Let us know when you enquire and we will pair you with another attendee where it suits.

Come with a partner, a friend, your sister, your daughter, or whoever you have been meaning to spend an afternoon with.

For studio owners and teachers

Bring this retreat to your community.

If you run a yoga or wellness space, this is a straightforward one to host. I bring the teaching, the sequence and the facilitation for the full three hours. You bring the room and your people.

What I bring

  • The full three hour retreat, taught and facilitated
  • The sequence and all the teaching material
  • Demonstration and hands on guidance throughout
  • Copy and images you can use to promote it

What you bring

  • The room, with floor space for pairs to spread out
  • Your usual mats, bolsters and blankets
  • An invitation to your community
  • A rough sense of the numbers you can fill

There is no fixed calendar, because every studio is different. Tell me where you are, roughly how many people you would like to host, and what dates tend to work for your community. Then we can build the afternoon around you.

We will talk through dates, floor space, numbers, equipment, participant pricing, how we promote it and anything particular about your community, before anything is confirmed.

Beyond the city

Country studios, I would love to hear from you.

These afternoons have gone down beautifully in Adelaide and I would really like to bring them into more regional communities. If you have a yoga or wellness space and you think your people would enjoy this, send me an enquiry.

We can talk about travel, numbers and whether we can make it work in your town. I will not know until we have spoken, but I am very happy to have the conversation.

The things people ask me

Everything else you might be wondering.

Do I need any massage experience?

None at all. Most people arrive having never done anything like this. Everything is demonstrated first and I am beside you the whole way through.

Do I need to do yoga?

No. It helps if you are comfortable on the floor, but there are no yoga poses to hold and nothing to keep up with.

Do I have to bring a partner?

It is lovely with someone you know, and that is how most people come. If you would rather come on your own you can, at $65, and we will pair you with another attendee where it suits.

Is it suitable for complete beginners?

Yes, it is built for them. We go slowly, and we spend as much time on how to move between the techniques as on the techniques themselves.

Do we stay clothed?

Fully clothed, the whole time. No oil and no draping. Wear something comfortable that you can move and kneel in.

Do I need to be comfortable on the floor?

Yes, this one matters. Most of the afternoon happens on padded mats at floor level, with a fair bit of sitting and kneeling. If you are unsure, talk to me before you book.

How long does it run?

About three hours, including the quiet few minutes at the end.

How many techniques will we learn?

Around 7 to 12 movements and techniques, depending on the group and the flow of the day. I would rather you leave with eight you remember than twelve you do not.

How are dates arranged?

There is no fixed calendar. Each afternoon is arranged directly with the host studio, around dates that suit their community. Reach out and we will find one.

Can we host this outside Adelaide?

Yes, by arrangement. I would love to get into regional South Australia. Get in touch and we can talk about travel and numbers for your town.

What does the host studio need to provide?

The room with enough floor space for pairs, and your usual mats, bolsters and blankets. We confirm the details together before the day.

What size group works best?

Our Thai Yoga Massage Mini Retreats are designed for groups of approximately 10 to 20 participants. This creates a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where everyone has space to learn, connect and enjoy the experience.

If you're a studio owner or organiser with a different group size in mind, please get in touch and we can discuss what works best for your space.

How does payment work?

Payment arrangements are discussed individually with each hosting studio or organiser. We'll work together to find an arrangement that suits the event, including how bookings and payments will be managed.

Everything will be discussed and agreed upon before the event is confirmed.

Where to from here

Let's find a date that suits your room.

Tell me where you are and roughly when works, and we will build an afternoon around your community.
